Jewelry Care Guide
Jewelry Care Guide
Fine gold jewelry is made to last a lifetime — but how you care for it determines whether it stays brilliant or fades. Follow these guidelines to keep your GIDI pieces looking their best.
General Care Rules
- Last on, first off. Put jewelry on after applying perfume, lotions, and hairspray. Remove it before washing hands, swimming, or exercising.
- Avoid chemicals. Chlorine, bleach, and cleaning products can damage gold and degrade stone settings.
- Store separately. Keep pieces in individual pouches or compartments to prevent scratching.
- Remove before bed. Sleeping in fine jewelry can cause prong damage, chain tangling, and metal stress over time.
Caring for Solid Gold (10K, 14K, 18K)
Solid gold is naturally resistant to tarnish, but it still benefits from regular cleaning.
- Mix a few drops of mild dish soap in warm (not hot) water.
- Soak the piece for 15–20 minutes.
- Use a soft-bristle toothbrush to gently scrub crevices.
- Rinse thoroughly under warm running water.
- Dry with a soft, lint-free cloth. Air dry completely before storing.
Caring for Lab-Grown Diamond & Moissanite
Both lab diamonds and moissanite are extremely hard (9.25–10 on the Mohs scale) and easy to clean:
- Use the same mild soap and warm water method above.
- A soft toothbrush works well to remove oil buildup behind the stone.
- Professional ultrasonic cleaning is safe for most settings — check with a jeweler if unsure.
Caring for Gold-Plated Pieces
Gold-plated jewelry requires extra care to preserve the plating:
- Avoid contact with water, perfume, sweat, and harsh chemicals.
- Clean with a slightly damp, soft cloth — no soaking.
- Store in an airtight bag to slow oxidation.
- Replating is available at most local jewelers when the gold layer wears down.
Professional Cleaning
We recommend having solid gold and diamond pieces professionally cleaned and inspected once per year. A jeweler can check prong integrity, re-polish metal, and ensure stones are secure — keeping your investment protected for years to come.
